Nike have just launched their latest tech savvy fitness product, the Nike + FuelBand. I’m slouched on my sofa thinking, do we really need another gym accessory, that lets be honest, 75% of consumers will never even understand how to use properly?
Don’t get me wrong, smart move by Nike, beautiful design as well, you can even let all your friends know how much you’re sweating and where. The FuelBand has more social tie-ins than my average Saturday night. That’s Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare for those who want to know.
We live in an age were consumers love micro analysing every piece of data they lay their eye’s upon, Nike has hit the sweat game on the head with this one. Gym enthusiasts will buzz over this product, I can already see FuelBand gym buddies becoming the next gym craze.
Remember Rocky 4, when Sly fought Drago? Rocky proved to us you didn’t need a FuelBand to become Heavy Weight Champion of the World. Most people in the gym need to be more Rocky, less Drago.
Anyway, Nike continue to pioneer change in the fitness sector and they’ve just brought working out right up to speed in the 21st Century. I reckon the FuelBand will fly off the shelves faster than Michelle McManus chasing a Doughnut up the stairs.
I think you have a good point, and ultimately for some people this is going to be another sexy slab of bling that ends up at the bottom of their sock drawer within weeks. At the same time, devices like the Fitbit are pleasing to people who are less like Rocky and more like the fit lady in your accounting department.
